Inauguration of Doppler Weather Radar, Patiala
Beijing Metstar Doppler Weather Radar was installed at DWR Patiala in the month of September 2011. Site acceptance test was conducted on 19th, 20th and 21st September 2011 by Dr. O.P. Singh, DDGM, RMC New Delhi, Shri Suresh Chand, Sc. ‘E’ , Shri S M Metri, Director, DWR Mohanbari and Shri M S Tomar, Director I/C, M O Patiala. DWR was commissioned on 14th October 2011 after completion of endurance test. This Radar is 12th DWR of IMD and 8th of Metstar Brand.
DWR building and DWR at Patiala was inaugurated by Dr. Jaspal Singh, Hon’ble Vice-chancellor, Punjabi University in the presence of Dr. O. P. Singh, DDGM, RMC New Delhi, Dr. R K Datta, Sc. ‘E’, Radar Lab and Shri S Venkateswarlu, Sc. ‘E’DRM, New Delhi on 24th January 2012 at 1000 hrs IST. V C was briefed about the functioning of the DWR by DDGM. Shri Venkateswarlu presented power point presentation of DWR working and various products.
After the inauguration of DWR, lighting of the lamp was done by VC, DDGM, Director I/C and Ex. Engineer, CPWD Ludhiana. This was followed by presentation of small momentoes and shawls to the Guests on Dias. Later DDGM, RMC New Delhi addressed the august gathering briefing about the DWR and its usefulness. VC also addressed the gathering. He assured all possible help from University to IMD. He praised IMD for installing most sophisticated DWR at Punjabi University. Observation Manual of Doppler Weather Radar was released on this occasion. Heads of various Departments of Punjabi University, Director I/C of M C Chandigarh, Incharge Northern Regional Language Committee, CPWD Engineers, Staff members of Met. , students of University, CPWD Contractors were present in the meeting. The meeting was concluded with vote of thanks by Shri M S Tomar, Director I/C, M O Patiala. DDGM briefed press after the meeting is over.
